Story 10

Tree that have Given Up the Place on the Road
“Street trees” exist in every city, playing various roles such as preserving the natural environment, blocking sunlight and noise, and improving the streetscape. According to a survey by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism, there were approximately 6.3 million street trees across the country in 2022. What we acquired this time were street trees from Kobe, which were felled during road maintenance. These trees are typically removed when natural disasters like typhoons or disease-related aging make it difficult to maintain a safe road environment. However, a major issue is that many areas lack proper post-planting care and maintenance. In order to continue coexisting with street trees, which are an integral part of urban landscapes, it is necessary to take a long-term approach to their care and preservation.
