「困った木」で作る 時木の積層

「困った木」のプロジェクトで木材の取得や保管で協働してきた、木材コーディネーターの山崎正夫さん。彼が主宰する〈SHARE WOODS.〉という住宅や商業・公共施設などの木質系内外装材の販売や建築資材や木製品の商品開発などをおこなう事業の中でも、さまざまな発見がありました。彼から取得したのは無垢材をシート状にスライスして、ベニヤ板や集成材などの表面に貼り付けた「突板（つきいた）」を生産する際に、残った木材の芯の部分。家具づくりにおいて無駄なく材料を使うことは前提であるものの、どうしても余ってしまう部位があることも事実。その活用法を考え実践することをやめないことが、未来への確かな気づきにつながるのではないでしょうか。

Tree that is Beautiful but No Longer Needed

Masao Yamazaki, a wood coordinator who has collaborated with us on the “Komatta Ki” (Troubled Trees) project in sourcing and storing lumber, has brought many insights through his work. He leads SHARE WOODS., a business that deals in wood-based interior and exterior materials for homes, commercial, and public spaces, as well as in the development of wood products and building materials.
From him, we obtained the core portions of solid wood that remain after producing tsukiita—thin wood veneers sliced from solid timber and applied to surfaces like plywood or laminated boards. While efficient material use is fundamental in furniture-making, the reality is that certain parts inevitably go unused. Continuing to explore and act on ways to make use of these leftover pieces may well be the key to sustainable awareness for the future.
