Story 16

Tree Cut for River Safety

Riverbank maintenance is essential for ensuring the safety of local residents and the preservation of the river environment. However, many so-called “hazard trees” are felled as part of this process. In a 2023 riverbank improvement project in Toyokawa, Aichi Prefecture, an initiative was launched to effectively utilize these felled trees and reduce processing costs by offering them for free to local residents who expressed interest. The wood we acquired is part of this initiative. We are gradually seeing the expansion of a system in which trees are circulated within the community, being used for purposes such as firewood and DIY projects.
